last_herald_mage (I think it's pretty hilarious that I finished this actually *on Christmas day*, AND the last ~30K words of it was written while on the 13h overnight leg of my flight home from Australia, instead of sleeping, which I feel like is an extremely Vanyel thing to do).

I had a lot of fun with this section! There is action & adventure again, instead of just people being really upset with each other, and it's pretty heavy on worldbuilding from other books in the Valdemar universe, in particular the Mage Winds and Mage Wars trilogies.
*Vanyel & Dara go on a journey to learn more about Leareth
*Dara gets to take Need for a while, and there are shenanigans
*Vanyel goes to Kata'shin'a'in, e.g. "Valdemar's Burning Man"
*Vanyel visits Urtho's Tower
*Vanyel is...actually pretty together and good at taking care of himself?
*(Until he isn't)
*Awkward politics back home
*Stef and Jisa continue to be drama queens
*References some stuff from Magic's Price in IMO a pretty neat way
